WASHINGTON—The board of trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace announced today the addition of four new members—Jon M. Huntsman Jr., Adebayo Ogunlesi, Kenneth E. Olivier, and L. Rafael Reif. These appointments expand the board to 27 members in keeping with the growth of the global think tank.
“We welcome these important additions,” said Richard Giordano, chairman of the board. “Each one brings vast knowledge and expertise in his respective field, which will significantly contribute to our efforts to enhance Carnegie’s work around the world.”
Jon Huntsman is chairman of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. He previously served as U.S. ambassador to China and Singapore. In 2004, he was elected governor of Utah. Prior to that, he was deputy U.S. trade representative under President George W. Bush. Huntsman also served as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for trade development in East Asia and the Pacific under President George H. W. Bush.
Adebayo Ogunlesi is chairman and managing partner of Global Infrastructure Partners, a private equity firm that invests worldwide in infrastructure assets in the energy, transport, and water and waste industry sectors. From 1983 to 2006, he held various positions at Credit Suisse Investment Bank (and predecessor firms), including as executive vice chairman and chief client officer, a member of the executive board and management committee, and head of global investment banking.
Kenneth Olivier is chairman and chief executive officer of Dodge & Cox Funds. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the California Bar Association (inactive) and was previously president of the Security Analysts of San Francisco. Olivier joined Dodge & Cox in 1979 and is a director and shareholder of the firm as well as a chartered investment counselor. He also holds the chartered financial analyst designation.
L. Rafael Reif has served as president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since July 2012. Before taking on the presidency, he served for seven years as MIT’s provost. A member of the MIT faculty since 1980, Reif has served as director of its Microsystems Technology Laboratories and as head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. For his work in developing the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange, he received the 2012 Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Award.
