In his first public address since assuming responsibilities as ambassador of India to the United States in December, S. Jaishankar discussed the promise of, and prospects for, the U.S.-India relationship. Carnegie President Jessica T. Mathews moderated the discussion.
Ambassador Dr. S. Jaishankar
Ambassador Dr. S. Jaishankar currently serves as ambassador of India to the United States. Jaishankar comes to Washington, DC, with more than three decades of diplomatic experience. Since joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1977, Jaishankar has represented India’s interests and fostered friendly working relationships in countries around the world. Most recently, Jaishankar was ambassador of India to China (2009–2013).
Jessica T. Mathews
Jessica T. Mathews was appointed president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in 1997. Her career includes senior positions in the White House, State Department, Congress, Council on Foreign Relations, World Resources Institute, and the Washington Post.
