Laura Peterson joined Foreign Policy in 2003. Prior to joining FP magazine, Peterson was a writer for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), a program of the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C., that conducts investigative reporting on transnational issues. At ICIJ, Peterson reported extensively on the Angolan oil industry, private military companies, and U.S. government defense contracting. Previously, she traveled to Turkey as a Pew Fellow in International Journalism, sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. From that country, she reported on civil society and media for publications including the Christian Science Monitor and American Journalism Review. Peterson also worked for 18 months in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a wire-service editor and correspondent for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Cairo Times. Her work has appeared in several other publications, including Lingua Franca and the American Prospect.
