Timothy J. Bork founded and serves as senior adviser to the Africa Policy Initiative. The initiative, designed to enhance the U.S. role in Africa’s economic and political development, includes efforts to strengthen key Africa-related policy institutions in the United States and to conduct targeted policy, educational, and communication activities. Activities include the National Summit on Africa, a multimedia documentary on Africa’s governance history since 1945, and an arts and cultural education program.

Previously, Mr. Bork served as director of Africa and Middle East Programs (AME) at the Ford Foundation and as a foreign service officer specializing in African affairs for 19 years with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). He departed USAID as the acting deputy assistant administrator of the Africa Bureau, where he coordinated and provided policy direction to programs in Sahel West and Southern Africa and the Offices of Development Planning and New Initiatives.

He also served as the assistant general counsel for Africa for several years. Mr. Bork received his LL.M. from Georgetown University, his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law, and his B.A. from Lake Forest College.
