Speaking to CGTN America, Jake Sullivan discussed the decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, arguing that it is hard to find a good argument for the decision with respect to advancing the cause of peace in the Middle East. He said that the decision is causing unnecessary turmoil in the region. However, he argued there were no clear prospects for a peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians in the close future, so the decision might not have too significant an impact on the possibility of arriving at a two-state solution. Sullivan concluded by saying that the decision was made by a small group of President Trump’s close supporters who felt that there was a political benefit to this decision.
