Context
- Announced in April 2012 by President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda alongside other cyber-focused and economic initiatives and first held in 2013.
Goals
- To discuss cyber threats and cyber cooperation for defense and security, align their international cyber policies, compare national cyber strategies, and cooperate on cyber infrastructure.
Significance
The dialogue sought a whole-of-government approach, bringing various agencies on both sides of the alliance to the table, in order to discuss joint cooperation on cyber capcity building, information sharing, international security, network defense, cybercrime, and military cooperation. Additionally, the dialogue created an avenue for both nations to affirm and share their joint commitments to open, interoperable, secure, and reliable cyberspace.
