Context
- Established in 2013 to complement the whole-of-government cyber efforts represented by the U.S.-Japan Cyber Dialogue.
Goals
- To foster increased cyber defense cooperation with the improvement of the respective cyber capabilities of and interoperability between Japan’s Self-Defense Forces and the U.S. military.
Significance
This serves as a framework for defense officials to discuss wide-ranging issues, such as information sharing (at a policy level), human resources development, and technical cooperation.
Additionally, in 2015 both sides agreed a joint cyber deterrence posture, pledging closer cooperation on cyber threat data sharing.
