Context
- Established in 2013 to show the U.S. and Japan cooperating globally on modern challenges.
Goals
- To better coordinate both countries’ official development assistance (ODA) and maximize their combined effectiveness.
- To focus in Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and Africa.
- Key topics to include women’s empowerment and security, global health, and disaster risk reduction.
Significance
In accordance with the objectives of this dialogue and since its inception, both countries have collaborated to support women’s entrepreneurship programs in Africa, assisted a UN Women’s project in India, helped clear unexploded ordnances in Laos, and funded a new human resources center for an NGO in Papua New Guinea.
