Context
- A multiagency dialogue launched in 2010 that involves Keidanren and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) against the backdrop of a burgeoning Internet economy.
Goals
- To better coordinate bilateral cooperation on a new sector vital to both countries’ economies.
- To consider what the two countries can accomplish in the global cyber environment with an emphasis on freedom and the openness of the Internet and its multi-stakeholder system.
Significance
This dialogue advocated securing the continued free flow of information and development of the global Internet economy. Specifically, the dialogue has pushed for fostering emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, as well as greater adoption and use of cloud technology services.
In meetings, members discuss cyber security, the protection of citizens and citizens’ content online, and how to better use the Internet and tools such as cloud computing to assist developing countries.
