Context
- Created in 1964 to promote bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation.
Goals
- To advance the conservation of marine and terrestrial resources through the applied use of science in technology in its 18 different research panels.
Significance
Through the various panels of this program, Japan and the United States have contributed to a better global understanding of biology, geology, pathology, and natural disaster prevention and safety.
As one of four major research exchanges between the U.S. and Japan, this initiative has fostered collaboration between scientists on both sides, as well as exchanges of information and personnel.
