因为长期的历史联系和相似的文化价值观，美国与台湾结下了深厚的友谊。民间交往为美国和台湾普通民众之间的相互了解提供了最直接有效的方法。商业关系、经济价值链、语言交流项目、留学机会、文化活动以及旅游，这些都是培养和深化美国与台湾密切联系的重要途径，也会极大地丰富美台关系。
