U.S.-China Dialogue on the South China Sea

Former state councilor Dai Bingguo and former deputy secretary of state John D. Negroponte discussed the situation in the South China sea ahead of the July 12 International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) arbitration ruling between the Philippines and China.

Dai Bingguo

Dai Bingguo is the chairman of Jinan University and honorary president of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies at Peking University. He previously served as state councilor for the People's Republic of China between 2008 and 2013 under president Hu Jintao.

John D. Negroponte

John D. Negroponte is vice-chairman of McLarty Associates and Brady Johnson Distinguished Fellow in Grand Strategy and senior lecturer in international affairs at Yale University. He previously served as director of national intelligence and deputy secretary of state under President George W. Bush.
