IMGXYZ378IMGZYXAs economic ministers, business and civil society leadership from around the world gather in Washington for the World Bank/IMF semi-annual meetings, the Help Wanted forum focuses international attention on employment outcomes—the single most important economic issue for most people in the world, yet an issue that gets little attention from the multilateral communities in the nation's capital.

ILO Director General Juan Somavia was joined by World Bank Chief Economist François Bourguinon, U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown, Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi Deepak Nayyar, and others who to discuss how employment outcomes can and should play a more prominent role in multilateral decision-making strategies.

This is the second in a series of events following the report of the World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization, A Fair Globalization: Creating Opportunities for All. The report, issued in early 2004, is the product of a two-year debate among world leaders on the impact of globalization on ordinary people.

The latest seminar explores the balance between economic growth and employment and decent work that will help build a comprehensive policy agenda to follow up the work of the World Commission.
