Hail to the Chief

U.S. President Obama will engage with Russia on key issues regarding U.S.-Russian relations, such as ballistic missile defense and NATO's future relations with Ukraine and Georgia, in conjunction with European allies.

US President Barack Obama plans to deal with Russia in conjunction with Europe, Ambassador James Collins, director of the Carnegie Endowment’s Russia and Eurasia programme, told new Europe. “Bottom line, I expect to see a careful look and assessment about whether or not it makes sense to go forward with ballistic missile defence as it has been defined up to now. The same is true with Ukraine and Georgia and their future relation to NATO. I believe it is going to be done in conjunction with our European allies and friends,” Collins, who was the US Ambassador to the Russia from 1997 to 2001, said telephonically from Washington DC on January 23.
