CERN Meeting 2000: Anchoring Public Support
Wed, November 1st, 2000
Pocantico Conference Center, Tarrytown, New York
October 30 - November 1, 2000
CERN's fourth annual meeting focused on the topic of anchoring public support
for reform, and highlighted a keynote speech by UNDP Administrator Mark
Malloch Brown. Participants at the three-day CERN meeting tackled tough
questions about how to approach reform fatigue and secure support for second-generation
reforms. Among the issues discussed were the value of consensus-building, the
use of communication and the media, the role of civil society, and the politics
of reform . The meeting offered a unique interchange; a chance for experts and
academics to present their work and an opportunity for CERN members to share
their experience 'from the trenches' of the reform process. Two volumes will
be produced from the meeting, one highlighting short case studies of CERN member
experiences with the process of implementing reform, and the other presenting
academic papers on the subject.
