Erdoğan Strikes Back

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) regained a parliamentary majority in Turkey’s November 1 election, after the setback of the June vote. The win has been heavily criticized, however, due to an aggressive campaign that included violent conflicts between state forces and media outlets as well as opposition members.
On France 24’s The Debate, Marc Pierini discussed with François Picard the outcome of the Turkish election and the impact on Erdoğan’s presidential ambitions. Pierini was joined by Arzum Karasu, a freelance journalist, and Zafer Sirakaya, the president of the AKP in Brussels.
