Assessing Germany’s European Agenda

Carnegie Europe
2018 has been marked by intensive debate about the future of Europe, with Germany’s role being particularly emphasized. Expectations have been building for the new government in Berlin to take the lead in defining the EU’s role in a shifting global order and to relaunch the integration process. Yet it remains to be seen how member states will respond to this new agenda—and whether their priorities align with those of the German public.
Carnegie Europe hosted a public discussion on the latest edition of THE BERLIN PULSE, Körber-Stiftung’s flagship report on German foreign policy, which showcases analyses by prominent global thought-leaders alongside German public opinions on today’s most pressing international challenges.
Nora Müller, executive director international affairs at Körber-Stiftung, kicked off the discussion with a short presentation of THE BERLIN PULSE, followed by a panel debate featuring Arne Lietz, member of the European Parliament, and Ambassador Nicolas Suran, permanent representative of France to the EU’s Political and Security Committee. Carnegie’s Judy Dempsey moderated.
A light reception followed. Copies of THE BERLIN PULSE were available at the event.
