Tatyana Maleva was scholar-in-residence and co-chair of the Post-Soviet Economies in Transition Program at the Carnegie Moscow Center.

While at the Carnegie Moscow Center, Maleva also served as director of the Independent Institute of Social Policy, a position she has held since 2001. From 1997 to 2001 she was leading researcher and project manager for the Bureau of Economic Analysis Foundation and from 1996 to 1997 she was the director of the Center for Macroeconomic Research at the Institute of Economics, Sociology, and Law.

Maleva has also held positions in Russia's Ministry of Economy (1993–1994) and Ministry of Labor (1985–1993).
