A Fatal Life
In an interview on the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Peter Bergen discusses his new biography of Osama bin Laden.
Peter Bergen is vice president, global studies and fellows, at New America, a Washington think tank. He is also a CNN national security analyst and a professor of practice at Arizona State University, where he codirects the Center on the Future of War. Bergen is the author or editor of nine books, three of which were New York Times bestsellers and four of which were named among the best nonfiction books of the year by the Washington Post. He is the author, most recently, of a biography of Osama bin Laden, titled The Rise and Fall of Osama bin Laden, which was published in August 2021 to correspond with the twentieth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. Diwan interviewed Bergen in early September to discuss his book and where Al-Qaeda stands today.
