Big Brother of the Levant

In an interview, Antony Loewenstein discusses how Israel has successfully marketed its instruments of repression and surveillance worldwide.

Antony Loewenstein is an Australian-German investigative journalist and author who has written a number of books on topics as varied as the Israel-Palestine question, capitalism, and the war on drugs. His latest book is The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World (Verso, 2023). Loewenstein is also the author of My Israel Question: Reframing The Israel/Palestine Conflict (Melbourne University Publishing, 2009), Profits of Doom: How Vulture Capitalism is Swallowing the World (Melbourne University Publishing, 2014), and Pills, Powder, and Smoke: Inside the Bloody War on Drugs (Scribe, 2019). Diwan interviewed Loewenstein in mid-January to discuss The Palestine Laboratory, which has especial relevance as the war in Gaza continues.
