Mohamed A. El-Erian, Patricia House, and Rohan Weerasinghe join Carnegie board of trustees

Mohamed A. El-Erian, Patricia House, and Rohan Weerasinghe were appointed to the board of trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

WASHINGTON, February 2—Mohamed A. El-Erian, Patricia House, and Rohan Weerasinghe were appointed to the board of trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Making the announcement, Richard Giordano, chairman of the board, said:

“I am delighted to welcome these three outstanding individuals to the board. All leaders in their respective fields, they bring a rare combination of deep intellect, vast experience, and global orientation central to building the first global thank and through it, making concrete contributions to international cooperation. I look forward to their contributions to the board and to working with each of them for many years to come.”

El-Erian is CEO and co-CIO of PIMCO, the global investment management firm with $1.3 trillion of assets under management. Prior to rejoining PIMCO at the end of 2007, El-Erian was President and CEO of Harvard Management Company (the entity managing Harvard's endowment) from February 2006, as well as a faculty member of the Harvard Business School. He spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund before moving to Salomon Smith Barney/Citigrop where he was a managing director in their London office until 1999. El-Erian's book, When Markets Collide, is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller and was awarded the Financial Times/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year for 2008.

House is the co-founder, vice chairman, and senior vice president of strategy at C3, an enterprise software company providing global solutions for energy, resource, and emissions management. She co-founded and served as vice chairman and executive vice president of Siebel Systems. Before joining Siebel Systems, she held managerial and executive positions at Verbatim, Oracle, and Frame Technology. House is chairman of the Mary Mae Foundation and is a member of the board of directors of First Virtual Group and the Hewlett Foundation.

Weerasinghe is the senior partner at the international law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP, where he focuses on advising corporate clients on corporate and securities law issues and corporate governance matters. Weerasinghe previously led the firm's global capital markets group and serves on the firm's management committee.

Jessica Mathews, president of the Endowment, said:

“We are honored these three distinguished leaders have chosen to support the Endowment’s efforts by joining our board. As we celebrate our centennial year, the Endowment continues its groundbreaking work around the world. Our new trustees will provide critical guidance as we move forward.”
