Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson kicked off Carnegie India’s 2021 Global Technology Summit with a special address. The four-day event convened industry experts, policymakers, and scholars from all over the world to discuss issues such as the geopolitics of technology, digital payments, data, digital inclusion, and healthcare in a post-pandemic world.

Global Technology Summit

With major global supply-chain disruptions, the pandemic has challenged assumptions about the relationship between the global and the local. In the sphere of technology, the pandemic has acted as an inflection point for several trends that advocate digital sovereignty. The increased interdependence on the internet has increased concerns over it being misused or weaponized. This has induced a rethinking on national strategies towards globalizing technological systems that balance concerns of national sovereignty with those of global efficiency and innovation. Carnegie Endowment for International Peace India, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has been hosting the Global Technology Summit (GTS) annually since Carnegie India’s inception in 2016.
