The Carnegie Endowment and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development co-hosted a conference attended by more than 100 education experts from around the Arab world to discuss the findings of the Carnegie citizenship education project and to present the papers commissioned by Carnegie that examined how citizenship education can be adopted into the curricula of Egypt, Tunisia, Oman, and Lebanon. The conference hosted a series of distinguished speakers who stressed the importance of re-structuring the ailing education systems of these countries. Participants brokeinto working groups that concentrated on issues such as the importance of the school climate, the role of teachers, and the need for research to inform education policy. The conference was attended by the education ministers of Jordan, Tunisia, and Kuwait.
