Trump Leans Toward Expanding U.S. Military Operations in Iran

President Trump is leaning toward expanding U.S. military operations in Iran after days of briefings from top aides, U.S. officials said. Options include stepping up airstrikes, sending ground forces to seize Iranian islands near the Strait of Hormuz and bombing a fortified site that could be used for covert nuclear work. Trump hosted a Situation Room meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the potential seizure of Kharg Island and other territory along the Strait of Hormuz using U.S. troops, as well as the potential bombing of a tunnel complex at Pickaxe Mountain, a nuclear-linked site the U.S. has yet to target. Expanding airstrikes against more targets in Iran, including energy sites, also remains a possibility.
German military to join French nuclear exercise for first time

German military personnel are set to take part in France’s flagship nuclear drill Poker for the first time this fall, according to a German government official. The move would be a significant step toward closer Franco-German cooperation on nuclear deterrence. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to agree on the participation during a meeting of the Franco-German Defense and Security Council at Germany’s Nörvenich Air Base on Friday.

Ransomware group World Leaks has posted on the dark web a huge cache of files related to India's largest nuclear plant, including purported blueprints of parts of its facilities and supplier details — information it labelled as coming from Reliance Group. The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, is the largest of India's seven nuclear plants and central to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious plans to expand the country's atomic energy capacity.
No radiation leak after 'contamination' events at African nuclear plant: regulator

South Africa's nuclear regulator said Thursday that no radioactive material leaked into the environment during three recent “contamination” events inside Africa’s only nuclear power station. The incidents involved “elevated airborne radioactive contamination” inside the Koeberg Power Station, on South Africa's west coast, when there was a loss of power to ventilation units during maintenance work, the National Nuclear Regulator said, adding there was no danger to the public. It said the three separate contamination events on June 30, July 2 and July 7 were contained inside the station.
North Korea’s Expanding Production of Uranium and Conventional Missiles

North Korea announced in June a new uranium enrichment facility, probably at Yongbyon, capping off a doubling of weapons-grade material production capacity between 2021 and 2025. … The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported June 8 that “the interior structure and layout of the facility” shown in photos of Kim’s visit “is consistent with…the features of the new building at Yongbyon” that had been identified in June 2025 as a possible centrifuge facility under construction. That building was externally complete and being fitted out by April 2026, according to imagery analysis.
