Euro-Atlantic Security Initiative – EASI

To move toward the goal of an inclusive Euro-Atlantic Security Community, a unique process was created in 2009 called the Euro-Atlantic Security Initiative (EASI) by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Learn More

Euro-Atlantic Security Initiative (EASI) co-chairs Wolfgang Ischinger, Igor Ivanov, and Sam Nunn presented the commission’s final report at the 2012 Munich Security Conference. EASI brought together former policymakers, diplomats, generals, and business leaders from Russia, North America, and Europe to look at options to address the region’s faltering security system and to chart a roadmap of practical action that would lead to a more secure future.

The final report lays out a series of concrete steps in three areas to improve relations between Russia, Europe, and the United States:

  • Military Security: missile defense and early warning systems
  • Human Security: frozen and protracted conflicts
  • Economic Security: energy (Arctic and natural gas supplies)
