About

Darcie Draudt-Véjares is a fellow for Korea studies in the Asia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Her research focuses on South Korean political economy, governance, and foreign policy, particularly the intersection of economics, technology, and geopolitics.

Her work examines South Korea’s evolving international role, including the U.S.–South Korea security alliance, partnerships with other middle powers, and the growing importance of industrial and technological capabilities in international affairs. Her research examines the politics and international implications of AI, semiconductors, computing infrastructure, and industrial and energy policy. She also studies how governments respond to demographic change, AI and automation, and transformations in labor and employment.

Before joining Carnegie, Draudt-Véjares held academic appointments at Princeton University and George Washington University, as well as research positions at the National Bureau of Asian Research, Korea Economic Institute of America, and Council on Foreign Relations.

She has briefed policymakers on both sides of the Pacific on Korean Peninsula affairs, U.S.–South Korea relations, and the intersection of economics and security. Her analysis has been featured in CNN, Bloomberg, BBC, The New York Times, and the Financial Times.

She holds a PhD in political science from Johns Hopkins University and an MA in Korean studies from Yonsei University. She is proficient in Korean and lived in Seoul from 2008 to 2013.
