Diwan and New Media in the Middle East

Thu. September 15th, 2016
Beirut, Lebanon

The Carnegie Middle East Center and Middle East Program are pleased to announce the launch of Diwan, the new Carnegie blog featuring timely analysis on the region’s most pressing issues. With the Arab world and the wider region in ferment, Diwan will present in-depth and accessible analysis in both English and Arabic. It will also serve to highlight Carnegie research, as well as offer a platform for interviews, videos, reviews, infographics, and more. Drawing on a large group of Carnegie Middle East experts, Diwan will respond to the increasingly fast-paced events of the day from a region that is in the headlines on a daily basis.

Carnegie Middle East Center organized that discussed the changing nature of news dissemination and information consumption. As people access and interact with information with unprecedented ease, how does this affect media, news, activism and policy? Bloggers Issander El-Amrani (The Arabist), Mahmoud Salem (Rantings Of A Sandmonkey), Karl Sharro (@KarlreMarks) and Doaa Sultan (+18) joined Carnegie’s Michael Young and Maha Yahya to discuss these topics as well as their own experiences in social media.
