The Unity State government of South Sudan rejected the deployment of 300 northern army troops in oil-producing areas following President Omar al-Bashir’s incendiary statements that Abyei is part of the North. Voting took place on Monday in long-delayed elections for governor and state legislature in South Kordofan. Analysts warned of possible violence after the vote.
