The first meeting of the regional think tank support project brought together representatives from all of the Carnegie Middle East Center’s think tank partners for the first time. It sought to explore the challenges and opportunities facing Arab think tanks during the Arab transitions and what role they can play in creating conditions for change. The meetings focused heavily on improving policy research, increasing the impact of think tanks by identifying obstacles and facilitators for their work, and improving communications and engagement strategies. It also dedicated sessions for financing and sustainability, and for developing ways in which think tanks can grow while maintaining independence. The meeting ended with a session dedicated to establishing future joint projects and collaborating across the region.
