Social Activism, Media, and Blogging in the Arab World

Mon. October 3rd, 2016
Washington, DC

Where are those voices in the Arab world that called so compellingly for change and spurred the 2011 uprisings that swept across the region? Which spaces are they using for expression as governments crack down on street protests, civil society, and media?

The Carnegie Endowment hosted a lunch discussion about trends in social activism and media featuring journalists Michael Young (Lebanon), Lilia Weslaty (Tunisia), and Abdelrahman Mansour (Egypt). Carnegie Vice President Marwan Muasher moderated.

The occasion for this discussion is the launch of Carnegie’s new Middle East blog, Diwan, edited by Michael Young. Diwan offers analysis on current developments in the region by Carnegie scholars, as well as interviews, videos, reviews, and infographics.
