Bridging the Divide Between Elite and Grassroots Anti-Corruption Activists

Around the world, ineffective and even fraudulent responses by governments to COVID-19 have escalated citizens' demands for greater transparency and accountability and civil society actors are responding to meet that need. But tangible progress against corruption will require more than just showing up. It will necessitate cooperation between “elite” and “grassroots" civil society organizations.

Please join the Center for International Private Enterprise’s Anti-Corruption & Governance Center (ACGC) and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace as they welcome Nada Zhody and Abigail Bellows for an event on their recent report: “Is the Coronavirus Catalyzing New Civic Collaborations for Open Government?” This event, introduced by the CIPE's Managing Director of Programs Abdulwahab Alkebsi, will feature three leading practitioners on how they forge civic partnerships in the era of COVID-19.

Bruno Brandão
Bruno Brandão has worked at Transparency International since 2010, and since 2016 has been based in Brazil, where he is the executive director of Transparency International-Brazil. Brandão is an economist by training and holds a master's degree in public management from the University of York and a master’s in international relations from the Barcelona Institute of International Studies.
Hussein Khalid
Hussein Khalid is the executive director of HAKI Africa – a Pan-African human rights organization. For the last twenty years, Khalid has been advocating for the rights of community members at the grassroots level in Kenya and the East Africa region, including via the Centre for Law and Research International (CLARION) and the Kenya Human Rights Commission.
Ketakandriana Rafitoson
Ketakandriana Rafitoson is the executive director of Transparency International-Madagascar. A Malagasy political scientist, activist, and public law specialist, Rafitoson has founded several youth and citizen-led movements in Madagascar.
Nada Zohdy
Nada Zohdy is the director of the Open Gov Hub, where CIPE is a member. She oversees all strategy, operations, and programs for this growing social enterprise and leads the design and implementation of programs to promote collaboration, innovation, and learning across the Hub network of forty member organizations.
