Jordan’s “Climate Change: The Coming Fear”

Wed. April 26th, 2023
Virtual

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and its impact is felt across the globe. Jordan, like many other countries, is not immune to the effects of climate change, and its citizens and businesses are already feeling its impact. Rising temperatures, droughts, and water scarcity are just a few of the challenges that Jordanians are facing, and these issues are having a significant impact on both individual lives and businesses in the country.

To launch a documentary film on the impact of climate change in Jordan through the lives of ordinary citizens, the Malcolm H. Kerr Carnegie Middle East Center will host a virtual event that will delve deeper into the issues raised in the documentary and explore their relevance to Jordan and the wider region.

The documentary highlights the stories of two shepherds, a tourism business owner, a female wool worker, a climate expert, and others, who have all experienced the effects of climate change on their respective sectors. It also sheds light on the increased frequency of droughts and extreme weather events such as flooding, which have unique implications for each of these sectors.

The event will discuss the role of businesses, governments, and individuals in addressing climate change in Jordan and globally, and how we can ensure that the voices of those most affected by climate change are heard in relevant decision-making processes.

The virtual panel discussion will take place on Wednesday, April 26  from 09:00 AM till 10:00 AM (EEST) with Bayan Sabra and Roman Haddad.

The discussion will be in Arabic and moderated by Mohanad Hage Ali. Viewers may submit their questions to the panelists using the live chat feature on Facebook and YouTube during the event. For more information, please contact Najwa Yassine at najwa.yassine@carnegie-mec.org.
