Speaking to PBS NewsHour, Carnegie President Jessica T. Mathews discussed President Obama’s nomination of Chuck Hagel for defense secretary and John Brennan for CIA director. She expressed support for the pair, stating that both men have a kind of personal gravitas that comes with decades of experience that can’t be substituted with briefing books or anything else.
