How Should Washington Respond to Turkey?

Following massive protests in Turkey and subsequent government backlash, Obama’s relationship with Prime Minister Erdogan has come into question.

Speaking on CNN, Carnegie's David Rothkopf explained that Obama has placed a great deal of emphasis on his international relationship with Erdogan. However, the Obama administration has chided Erdogan for Ankara's support of extreme elements in Syria. Now, Rothkopf argued, Obama is looking at his relationship with Erdogan and seeing an authoritarian leader and a county with problems with the press and the economy. It’s not the picture that existed even a couple months ago, concluded Rothkopf.
