Speaking on NPR’s All Things Considered, Carnegie’s Douglas H. Paal asserted that Xi Jinping’s upcoming summit visit to the United States in September will be on the minds of political figures during the Strategic and Economic Dialogue. The Chinese would like Xi’s visit to go smoothly and so will try to lower the temperature on many of the contentious issues. This is similar to what happened at the last dialogue in Beijing, which was held several months before Obama traveled to China in November, Paal added.
