Ukraine is 'Test Site' for N. Korean Missiles -S. Korea
Jonathan Landay and Arshad Mohammed | Reuters
The United States and its allies on Wednesday condemned what they described as Russia's firing of North Korean missiles at Ukraine, with Washington calling it abhorrent and Seoul calling Ukraine a test site for Pyongyang's nuclear-capable missiles. Speaking at a U.N. Security Council session on the nearly two-year-old war ignited by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Russia's envoy said the United States seemed to be spreading "wrong" information. But he stopped short of outright denying that Russia was using North Korean arms, which Deputy U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Robert Wood and other U.S. allies said would violate U.N. resolutions.
UK Government Sets out Plans for ‘Biggest Nuclear Power Expansion in 70 Years’
Jillian Ambrose | The Guardian
The government has set out plans for what it claims will be Britain’s biggest nuclear power expansion in 70 years, despite concerns about faltering nuclear output and project delays.Ministers published a roadmap on Friday that recommits the government to building a fleet of nuclear reactors capable of producing 24GW by 2050 – enough to meet a quarter of the national electricity demand. Approval will be given for one or two new reactors every five years from 2030 to 2044, and backing given to another large-scale reactor in addition to Hinkley Point C and the planned Sizewell C , even as the projects face uncertainty over their costs and timescale.
Cancelled NuScale Contract Weighs Heavy on New Nuclear

However, the failure of the much-anticipated proof case for advanced nuclear alongside the X-Energy market retreat left many questioning whether next generation nuclear could live up to its promises. “Almost all these kinds of MoUs and contracts, as we saw with the NuScale contract, are just not worth the paper they're written on. There are so many off ramps and outs for both sides and no one's willing to expose themselves to the downside risk of projects that go way over budget cost and take too long,” says Ted Nordhaus, Founder and Executive Director of The Breakthrough Institute.

‘They Scrapped Us’: The Trinity Downwinders and New Mexico Mine Workers who Remain Unrecognized
DANIELLE PROKOP AND MARISA DEMARCO | Colorado Newsline
RECA was approved by Congress in 1990 as a form of apology, according to the Department of Justice, and as a means of paying families exposed to radiation when uranium for nuclear weapons was mined and milled, or when those weapons were tested. But it wasn’t created without prompting, the DOJ acknowledges. It was Navajo uranium miners and people living downwind of the Nevada Test Site who spurred the creation of the RECA fund. They’d been fighting for their families and communities in courts after being exposed to so much radiation and suffering its effects — cancers, lung diseases and early deaths. Trinity downwinders were not covered by RECA.
