India’s decision to renew dialogue with Pakistan has generated both widespread interest and concern. The focus of the debate has largely been on the utility and sustainability of the talks. With the question of whether or not the talks will happen having been answered by the government, the debate must shift to a discussion on how New Delhi might conduct these negotiations, and what India might ‘learn’ and ‘unlearn’ from its past engagement with Pakistan.
