Europe Head-to-Head

Moving beyond rhetoric that calls for Brussels to face its challenges, the Europe Head-to-Head project proposes a continent-wide debate on what the EU must do to meet the moment, navigating the increasingly difficult global landscape to deliver for its citizens.

Across Europe, radical-right parties continue to rise in the polls—bolstered by widespread discontent with mainstream politics and an increasingly pervasive disinformation landscape. With major national elections on the horizon from Hungary to France, these parties are facing a historic opportunity to maintain or increase their power base and shift EU priorities accordingly.

In a union beset by external threats and struggling with internal divisions on how to respond, can Europe’s geostrategic vision and fundamental values survive a politics led by such forces? Is the prospect of a farther-right union an existential challenge, or is it overstated?

As part of our Europe Head-to-Head series, Carnegie Europe invites you to an online public discussion exploring the potential consequences of a political shift to the radical right. Cas Mudde, distinguished research professor at the University of Georgia, and Catherine Fieschi, visiting fellow at the European University Institute, will speak at the event moderated by Carnegie Europe Director Rosa Balfour.
